Wild Heart Connection

About Us

Welcome to our Equine Therapy program in the beautiful Hawkesbury Valley of New South Wales. Founded by an accredited counsellor, and child protection specialist with a life-long passion for horses, our program is designed to provide a nurturing and transformative environment through the healing power of horses.

We offer programs to support children who have experienced trauma. Through our specialised approach, we use the unique connection between horses and humans to encourage healing, personal growth, and resilience.

Horses have a remarkable ability to connect with humans on an emotional level, serving as powerful partners in the journey of healing and emotional regulation. Their innate sensitivity to human emotions creates a unique bond that fosters trust and safety, essential for children recovering from trauma.

Our Philosophy

Safety First: We prioritise the safety and well-being of participants and horses at all times, ensuring all activities are conducted with care and respect. Our facilitators have WWCCs,  Police Checks and work within best-practice Safeguarding standards.

Empowerment through choice: Participants are encouraged to set their own boundaries and engage at their comfort level, fostering autonomy and self-discovery.

Strengths based approach: each program is designed with and for individual participants to identify and develop their unique strengths.

When children interact with horses, they enter a world where non-verbal communication is key. Horses respond to subtle cues, body language, tone of voice, and energy levels—encouraging children to become more attuned to their own feelings and those of others.

Outcomes of Equine Therapy

  • Improved Emotional Regulation and stress reduction: Participants experience enhanced control over their emotions, leading to reduced anxiety and fewer disruptive behaviours.
  • Enhanced Communication Skills: Children develop better verbal and non-verbal communication, fostering confidence and improved interactions with peers and adults.
  • Increased Resilience and problem-solving skills: by providing a supportive environment where individuals face challenges, develop emotional regulation, and cultivate critical thinking and adaptability through interactions with horses.
  • Strengthened Teamwork and Social Skills: Engagement in group activities promotes effective collaboration.
  • Improved Self-Esteem and Confidence: Interacting with horses in a therapeutic setting helps build self-esteem and confidence by providing opportunities for success and achievement.
